Matthew D. Hammond, MD, FACS is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is also a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. Dr. Hammond provides medical and surgical eye treatment for patients of all ages.
Originally from Cache Valley, Dr. Hammond graduated with his bachelor’s degree from Utah State University. He received his doctorate of medicine from George Washington University, and completed his Ophthalmology residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, in Washington, DC.
Post residency, Dr. Hammond was selected Chief of Ophthalmology at Baynes-Jones Army Community Hospital in Louisiana. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal and the Humanitarian award for his efforts at Bayne-Jones and during Hurricane Katrina. Upon completion of that assignment, he was promoted to Chief of Ophthalmology and Director of WarFighter Refractive Surgery at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany. While in Germany, he served as the European Consultant for Ophthalmology and refractive surgery. Dr. Hammond was the “go to” doctor for all eye care needs for the theaters of engagment in the Middle East, Africa, and Europe. His greatest honor has been serving the injured Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, and Airment of the United States Military, and their families. For his service at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal.
Dr. Hammond and his wife Jennifer are the parents of four boys. Dr. Hammond enjoys skiing, tennis, and traveling with his family.
