Gregory Hicken, MD

Dr. Hicken was born locally and lived in Cache Valley when he was very small.  He finished High School in California, in the Bay Area.  He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin.  From there, he trained at Southwestern Medical School in Dallas and then finished his orthopedic residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.  At Rochester, he got a Master’s Degree in Biomedical Science, specifically with emphasis on the biomechanics of the thumb.  Following orthopedic residency, he completed a Sports Medicine and traumatology fellowship at the Tahoe Fracture Clinic in South Lake Tahoe, California.  Four years following his fellowship, he worked as the Sports Medicine Specialist for the Air Force, Region 7, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Dr. Hicken moved to Cache Valley in 1997 and has been with Alpine Orthopedics for the last eight years.  He specializes in sports medicine, injuries to the knee and shoulder, specifically meniscal injuries and ACL reconstruction.  Shoulder stabilizations, decompressions, and arthroscopic rotator cuff repairs are also part of his specialty.  Due to his training at the Mayo Clinic, he is very interested in and replaces hips, knees, and shoulders for degenerative arthritis and other disabling conditions.

Dr. and Mrs. Hicken are the parents of five children that are all musically inclined.  His hobbies include mountain biking, kayaking, skiing, and guitar.  Dr. Hicken and his family love Cache Valley.  He is excited to be coming to Preston to participate in orthopedic care at Franklin County Medical Center.
