AMBULANCE SERVICE

     As part of the statewide EMS program, the following is provided to the Franklin County area, around the clock, everyday of the year:

We are a first class Emergency and Urgent ambulance service meeting nationally recognized standards.

High quality, flexible patient transport services that meet the expectations of patients and families.

Communications services to support non-ambulance organizations.

We provide ALS and BLS care along with Mobile Intensive Care Transports.

The service is staffed by Emergency Medical Technicians and equipped with four ambulance vehicles.



ANESTHESIOLOGY

   The Department of Anesthesiology maintains the highest standard of care. Franklin County Medical Center provides 24 hour surgical, chronic pain and obstetrical pain services. We boast new state of the art anesthesia equipment with a goal to always meet your needs.

COMMUNITY AWARENESS 

     FCMC Sponsors an annual Health and Wellness Expo, which includes "reduced fee" blood screening, computer health-age analysis, massage therapy and prevention in eating disorders. Over 50 different health related booths are a part of the Expo, along with the popular "Teddy Bear Med". This is a place where children can bring their stuffed animals and learn about all of the different departments in a hospital. A "Kids Korner" is included which makes this event a family outing. Some of the booths featured fingerprinting and photo I.D.s, Head Start info, balloon artist, "Got Milk?" pictures and the convincer.

    Tours for all organizations, school age children, medical students, etc. are conducted here at FCMC. We request that arrangements be made at least one week in advance to set up tour. Almost any department at the facility can be toured, and tours can be tailored to meet your needs. Tours also include the "Teddy Bear Tour" (for those 3-18 years expecting surgery) and the "Big Brother, Big Sister Tour" (a tour that is planned for the siblings of a new arrival). These tours are free of charge and include tour of facility, treats and goody bags. Please call 208-852-0137 to request a tour.

    Both In-Service and Outreach education is an important part of Franklin County Medical Center. We believe that health-wise education among our community can only improve health in families, neighborhoods and in our community. FCMC is proud to sponsor over 20 education classes which can be a benefit for the health and well being of those attending. Please check under "Outreach Classes" for more information.

    Other events sponsored by the medical center include  Legacy 5K Run/Walk, Rodeo Clown Round-Up, Holiday Coloring Contests, The Olde Christmas Village and the International Bed Race.

CORONARY AND INTENSIVE CARE UNIT

      A total of four beds are monitored. One bed is a private room while the other three are in a ward. All have  bedside monitors and are also monitored at the adjacent nurses station.



 


DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING (X-RAY)

RADIOLOGY NOW AT LIGHTSPEED

   
The Radiology department at Franklin County Medial Center has grown in leaps and bounds over the years. The department now offers a state-of-the-art CT, Ultrasound services, and Tele-Radiography.
 
All department staff are registered technologists. Jim Hansen, R, ARDMS, who is chief of the department, remarks, "We are able to do most common diagnostic exams here and all radiology stafff are skilled in their professions." Hansen is over administrative work, and is trained in performing Cat Scans and X-Rays. He is also in charge of EKG's and the Holter Monitor. Jim is over ultrasound exams including Echocardiograms.
 
Other staff members include Gary Farber, R,CT, ARDMS, is in charge of making sure that the new CT machine functions properly. Gary is trained in X-Ray and Ultrasound, and is the procurement officer of the department. Stuart Knapp, R,CT, is trained in Cat Scan and X-Ray procedures. Knapp is currently studying ultrasound procedures. Sara Anderson, R, is a part time member of the Radiology staff  and is trained in X-Ray procedures. The staff also inclues Mike Garvis,R, who comes in as needed during emergency situations.
 
 All staff members are trained to send digitial information through Tele-radiography. The FCMC Radiology Department is open 24 hour daily.
 



 


ELECTRO CARDIOLOGY

      Computerized EKG analysis is provided in-house, with 24-hour Cardiologist consultation available via computerized phone lines.



 


EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT

     The Emergency Department consists of two rooms which operate 24 hours per day, seven days a week by physicians and nurses committed to caring for your needs. Certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Trauma Nurse Care Curriculum help provide our staff with the knowledge needed to care for you in many different situations. At least one RN and other licensed personnel are available to the Department, which is centrally located to the Nursing area, Laboratory, Radiology Department, and Surgery.





LABORATORY

     The department of laboratory services at Franklin County Medical Center offers a variety of services and years of experience. The laboratory is staffed by A.S.C.P. registered clinical laboratory scientists who perform over 65,000 tests annually. We provide a wide array of testing in a multitude of disciplines, which include: hematology, chemistry, blood gases, coagulation, urinalysis, blood banking, immunology, and microbiology.

     Available 24 hours a day, we provide inpatient, outpatient and emergency services to meet the needs of a growing community.



 


NURSING

   

Franklin County Medical Center employees 24 Registered Nurses, 24 Licensed Practical Nurses, and 50 Certified Nurses Aides. The Nursing Department covers all areas including Obstetrics, Newborn Nursery, Pediatrics, Medical, Surgical, Coronary Care, Emergency, Geriatrics and Home Health.
 
 
 
All Hospital Nurses are certified in:
                                                                       
                         Basic Life Support (BLS)
                         Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
                         Neonatal Resuscitation
                         Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC)
 
FCMC is also capable of cardiac monitoring in most hospital patient rooms, with the main display at the nurses station.
 
 
 



 


NUTRITIONAL SERVICES

        At FCMC we believe that wholesome, nourishing and well balanced meals are an important part of your treatment and recovery.  If you're on a special diet prescribed by your physician, you will receive a menu tailored to your specific needs.
        A registered dietitian can provide outpatient and inpatient counseling by appointment on all aspects of nutritional care, including:
                * Diabetic patients
                * Geriatric nutrition
                * Patients with cardiovasular disease
                * Weight control
 
        Cafeteria Service Hours: 
            Located at the east end of FCMC, our cafeteria is for the convenience of visitors, Transitional Care residents, families and our hospital staff. Services include a delicious salad bar, an excellent potato bar, and baked goods.
 
                Breakfast -       8:15 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.
                Lunch  -          12:15 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.
                Dinner -           5:15 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
 
            Meal Times/Buest Trays: Meals are served to patient at the following times:
 
                Breakfast -      8:00 am.
                Lunch -          12:00 p.m.
                Dinner -          6:00 p.m.
 
            Guest trays are available for visitors in your room. Patient families may receive one free meal per day. Please contact your nurse at least two hours prior to meal time. A guest tray will be deliverered along with patients meal.



 


OB/GYN

     A family oriented birthing experience is available for you at Franklin County Medical Center. The Labor/Delivery Suite features a warm decor with a home-like atmosphere.

     The birthing suite is staffed by nurses trained in maternal and infant care. The suite was provided by the Pink Ladies Auxiliary.

     Our childbirth educator gives prenatal instruction on many aspects of pregnancy, delivery, Lamaze and parenting. A lactation consultant is also available to teach and assist all mothers in the art of breast feeding.



 


PHARMACY

     The Pharmacy at FCMC is staffed by a full-time Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician. They provide pharmaceutical and pharmaceutical care services to inpatients and nursing home residents. 

     These services include unit-dose medication distribution, medication counseling, food and drug interaction screening, drug-drug interaction screening, adverse drug reaction monitoring, medication profile reviews, drug regimen reviews, and medication allergy screening. 

     Pharmacy consultations and IV services are available for home care and hospice patients. The pharmacy also services as a drug information source for the medical staff, nursing staff as well as patients and family members.



 


PHYSICAL THERAPY

     The Physical Therapy is staffed by a full time Registered Physical Therapist, and two P.T. assistants, which services inpatients, outpatients, nursing home, and home health.  We offer a wide spectrum of rehabilitative services. Pain reduction, neurological rehabilitation, improved range of motion, increased strength and restoration of function are the principles of treatment that the staff applies to achieve recovery success.

PHYSICAL THERAPY STAFF
 

RACHELLE OLIVERSON
PT

     Rachelle Oliverson, Registered Physical Therapist, received a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education from Utah State University, and earned her Master of Physical Therapy Degree from Idaho State University in 1999.  Since that time, she has been working as a therapist for Mountain West Physical Therapy in their Preston, ID clinic at the Franklin County Medical Center.

     Rachelle practices in a variety of settings including outpatient, hospital, skilled nursing facility, and school-based settings.  Treatments include orthopedics, geriatrics, pediatrics, manual therapies, and aquatics.

     Rachelle has a love of learning which she continues to follow through physical therapy-related continuing education courses.  Most recently she has attended courses in Pilate's, treatment of balance disorders, Myosequence (a manual massage technique), and basics of cardiac rehabilitation.

     Rachelle is married to Mike Oliverson.  Together they have two beautiful daughters, Stephanie and Katelyn.  She loves scrap booking, reading, and doing lots of outdoor activities with her family.
 

SHIRLEY SHAW
OT

     My name is Shirley Shaw and I am a registered occupational therapist of 11 years who has obtained a Master's of Occupational Therapy degree in 1992 from Texas Woman's University.

     I currently have OT licensure for the state of Idaho and Utah.  My genre of experience includes rehab (hospital, acute, burn, and SNF), outpatient clinic (hand injuries and work hardening), home health, as well as working with developmentally disabled individuals (in a group home, rehab, home health and outpatient setting).

     My experience working specifically with developmentally disabled individuals total approximately 4 years in the state of Utah, Idaho and Oklahoma.

STACY SMITH
OTA

     Stacy Smith, Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant, working for Mountain West Physical Therapy for 13 years in the Preston clinic located at Franklin County Medical Center.

     She graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor Degree in Community Health Education.  She started working in physical therapy in 1990 as a physical therapy aide.  She returned to school at Idaho State University in 1998 where she received her license for Physical Therapist Assistant.  Stacy has worked in many aspects of physical therapy including inpatient, nursing home, outpatient and home health care.  She enjoys her job working one-on-one with her patients.

     Stacy and her husband Jeff reside in Whitney, Idaho, and are the proud parents of four children, Casey, Cody, Chad and Kortni.  She enjoys bowling, biking, skiing, camping, hiking, and other outdoor activities with her family.



 


FCMC Volunteer Auxiliary 

     The FCMC Volunteer Auxiliary boasts an active roster of 29  members and a support network of an additional 24.

     The group provides numerous services to the Nursing Home residents as well as various fund raising activities for a variety of equipment and projects. Average amount raised per year is about $5,000. They celebrated  25 years of service in September 1999.



 


QUALITY MANAGEMENT

     Franklin County Medical Center is actively involved in continuous quality improvement, through the Quality Management Program and Improvement Teams. Our main goal is to improve our services based on community needs and national standards to give our patients the very best.



 


TRANSITIONAL CARE FACILITY

(FCMC Nursing Home)

     Franklin County Medical center operates a 45 bed extended care facility for patients who no longer require acute hospital care, but cannot be cared for at home. All of our beds are licensed for skilled care. 

     This facility is Medicare and Medicaid Certified. Staff includes MSW, Social Worker, and Activities Director, Pharmacist, Dietician, and RN's, LPN's and CNA's. Adult Day-Care and Respite Care services are also available.

     At FCMC., we understand the aging process and the special need of the geriatric population. We offer rehabilitative and restorative care under the direction of a physical therapist. We also offer "around the clock" skilled nursing care by licensed nurses and certified nursing assistants. 

     We have a daily activity program which provides mental stimulation as well as socialization for the residents. Also available is a dietician to plan for any special dietary needs and who oversees our staff to provide delicious and nutritious meals and snacks.

     Our facility focuses on a home-like atmosphere where we can help each resident reach his or her highest level of physical, mental and psycho-social well being. Our Social Services Department assists with financial resources and also provides discharge planning for those residents wishing to return home again.

     Goals for each resident are to promote optimum health, dignity, self respect and appropriate activity to enhance their quality of life. The FCMC Nursing Home is a five time recipient of the "Jean Shoonover Excellence in Care Award",  from the State of Idaho. SOCIAL SERVICES

     Franklin County Medical Center provides medical and clinical social services in the hospital, nursing home, outpatient services and home care area of the medical center. Including: discharge planning, community resource linkage and educational presentations. Individual, substance and family counseling are also included. OUTREACH CLASSES

Franklin County Medical Center has an excellent Community Outreach Program that we would like you to be aware of. The listed classes below are offered without charge to community, civic, school and church groups, and are presented by the FCMC Staff. Given by educated professionals, we are sure that those who take advantage of these classes will gain much insight not only into the subject being taught, but also in the capability of the staff here. The classes are held either at the hospital classroom, or we are more than willing to come to your meeting place. We are happy to present programs on any subject that fits your ward or organizations needs. SURGERY

     Many types of surgical services are available at FCMC including: general surgery, some laproscopic procedures, gynecologic and obstetrical, ear, nose and throat, head and neck, facial plastic and reconstructive, urology, and orthopedic and arthroscopic surgeries. Most of these are done on a same day basis.
