Why Would I Give?
When you make a contribution to Franklin County Medical Center through
our Foundation, your gift goes directly to work, helping to improve
patient care, research, education, and providing doctors and nurses with
quality facilities and equipment to be able to assist each of us to
better health.
Through the support of people like you, new medical equipment is
purchased or existing pieces are upgraded. For our patients this means
modern, efficient diagnosis and treatment is available when they need
it. Without the ongoing philanthropic support of individuals,
businesses and community organizations, many purchases would not be
possible.
Who Benefits?
Our friends, neighbors, and family members—even ourselves, who become
patients at Franklin County Medical Center. Each of us deserves the
best possible care.
Why Do People Give?
People give for a number of reasons. More often than not they believe
that they are contributing to better healthcare in their community. And
they are absolutely right. Better hospital funding means more and
better services. In the long run any contribution to a hospital’s
foundation is an investment in you and your community’s health.
Chances are you’ve heard of hospital foundations, but like most people,
you may have no idea what they are—or why they are so necessary.
A hospital foundation raises money and community awareness for a
hospital or medical center. The same way a concrete foundation
physically holds up a house, hospital foundations financially hold up
thousands of not-for-profit hospitals and medical centers.
Through fund-raising efforts and community education, hospital
foundations help keep healthcare providers and their communities in
touch with each other’s needs.
In the late 1960s government funding for hospitals started to decrease.
Since then funding has continued to decline while costs of providing
services have continued to rise. Now, hospitals often receive less
reimbursement from insurance companies and the government than what it
costs to provide the service. This reduction in payment costs hospitals
billions of dollars every year.
At the same time, the costs of labor, medications, and technology are
increasing.. And then there are the 44 million uninsured Americans who
need healthcare whether they can pay or not. Taken together, these
forces have created some very, very difficult times for hospitals in
recent years.
According to the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission, a groups that
advises Congress, more that 38% of all U.S. Hospitals were losing money
by 2003. These strains have made foundations and fund raising more
important that ever for hospitals’ survival.

What does Franklin County Healthcare Foundation do with donations?
During the time that the foundation has existed they have funded the
Landscape Project in front of the Nursing Home and they have donated
needed medical equipment to the hospital. Both of these activities have
been beneficial to the residents and patients at FCMC. The Landscape
Project included six young men seeking Eagle Scout status, several
service clubs, and both private and public donations.
Is It Tax Deductible?
All donations to Franklin County Healthcare Foundation are fully tax
deductible as long as no gain to the donor is made. For instance, if
the Foundation sells widgets for $10 to the public and the cost of the
widgets is $5, the donor can only deduct $5.
